Academics elected to the British Academy in 2026
Academics from Science and Engineering South (SES) member universities have been elected as Fellows of the British Academy in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the humanities and social sciences.

Academics from Science and Engineering South (SES) member universities have been elected as Fellows of the British Academy in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the humanities and social sciences.
The newly elected Fellows are from the Universities of Oxford, Cambridge and Southampton, University College London (UCL) and King’s College London.
Founded in 1902, the British Academy is the UK’s national academy for the humanities and social sciences. Election to the Fellowship recognises academic distinction and brings with it an active role within the Academy. Fellows contribute to research grant assessments, policy programmes and disciplinary leadership, helping to advance scholarship in the UK and internationally.
In total, 92 scholars were elected to the British Academy Fellowship in 2026. They join a community of more than 1,800 researchers whose past members have included leading figures such as Dame Frances Yates and Sir Winston Churchill.
The Fellowship consists of more than 1,300 UK-based academics, alongside International and Honorary Fellows. Those elected in 2026 represent a broad range of disciplines, including economics, education, law, archaeology, anthropology, political science, international relations, classics and modern languages.
Their election highlights the quality and impact of research taking place across SES universities, as well as the contribution their work makes to public understanding and academic debate. SES congratulates all of the newly elected Fellows and celebrates this recognition of excellence across its partner institutions.
