Code of Conduct

Making the Magic Happen with research data, software & infrastructure

Making the Magic Happen is a one day event open to anyone interested in careers in research data, software, infrastructure and more. The event is open to anyone, but there is a particular focus on institutions in London and the south and east of England.

The event aims to provide an interesting, enjoyable and fulfilling experience for all attendees and everyone’s participation is valued. Accordingly, all attendees are expected to show respect and courtesy to other attendees throughout the workshop.

To make clear what is expected, everyone involved in the Making the Magic Happen event is required to conform to the following Code of Conduct.

Code of Conduct

The Making the Magic Happen organisers are dedicated to providing a harassment-free workshop experience for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of workshop participants in any form.

Thank you for helping make this a welcoming, friendly event for all.

Further Clarification

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately.
Be careful in the words that you choose. Remember that sexist, racist, and other exclusionary jokes can be offensive to those around you. Excessive swearing and offensive jokes are not appropriate for the Making the Magic event.

If a participant engages in behaviour that violates this code of conduct, the workshop organisers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or removal from the workshop.

Reporting harassment

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, you should contact Rosie Niven. Should a harassment incident take place, please report it immediately, preferably in writing.

All reports will be confidential.

When reporting the incident, try to provide as much information as possible. Please do not interview people about the incident, but leave this to the event organiser.
